Soles4Souls Disaster Relief

Soles4Souls Disaster Relief

I’m a shoe person. I’ve always had an obsession about what I put on my feet. This leads me to make (often) unrealistic shoe purchases and my shoes go unworn. They sit in my closest collecting dust. Not very wise (or green) of me, I know.

So now what do I do with them?

According to Soles 4 Souls, I’m not alone in this situation. While millions of people go without adequate shoes to protect their feet from the elements,  Americans discarded more than 300 million pairs of shoes last year.

“Americans have over 1.5 billion pairs of shoes in our closets, and it’s time we take the extra pairs and give them to people who will treasure them for years to come. “

We have a few choices in shoe recycling, but my favorite option is  Soles 4 Souls, a charity created to give shoes to those in need all over the world. If you are a shoe lover too, you can easily get involved by setting up a shoe drive at your school, office, church or in your community. Soles 4 Souls will give you all the promotional materials you need to get started.

Their current campaign, Thanks4giving is set to reach a goal of collecting  250,000 pairs of shoes this holiday season.

” A simple message of love and solidarity to those who are without… Thanks4Giving is a unique opportunity for people to be thankful for what they have by sharing with those less fortunate…”

Wondering where the shoes go? This organization brings shoes to a wide array of people- from  Hopi/Navajo Indian Reservations, domestic abuse and homeless shelters in the U.S. to disaster victims and orphanages worldwide.

Here is a little more about Soles 4 Souls:

If you would like to donate the shoes that are crowding up your closet or start a shoe drive in your community, please check out their website for complete information. If any shoes are donated that cannot be used for any reason, they will be recycled.
