Miller Paint goes green

The paint market in 2009 is quite a wondrous thing.  I am amazed by recent commercials that promise to freshen my home, while I experiment with beautiful shades for its walls.  Have we truly entered an era in which our home cleans itself?

Well… I can dream, can’t I?  At least it will smell nice and fresh.

Now, from Miller Paint, comes Acro Pure.  This paint has zero VOC (volatile organic compound), is solvent-free and is a low-odor, environmentally-responsible paint. The paint meets all GS-11 (Green Seal) performance standards. For a mere $25/gallon, its now easy to paint your way green.

Here’s the low-down:

  • The paint has improved durability
  • Better coverage
  • More wash-ability (key in my home with 4 kids)
  • Available in 4 popular sheens
  • Unlimited colors

Miller Paint is marketing Acro Pure as the first environmentally responsible paint.  With lots of color selections and a number of sheens (egg-shell, flat, etc.) you can coat the inside of your home without worrying about toxic fumes.  And, you may even be able to mention the use of this paint in applying for LEED-certification.

When you use paint without solvent, the fumes are significantly reduced and both indoor and outdoor environments are improved.  As an added plus, you’ll reduce the probability of mold and mildew, as well.  These common allergens are potentially harmful to health beyond the irritating effect of congestion and sneezing.

Add to the eco-friendly nature of the product the ability to clean it effectively and efficiently, and I’m sold!  I get hand prints all over doors, walls and corners nearly as fast as I can wipe them down.

As noted on the website:

“Acro Pure has been formulated with a new generation ZERO VOC resin to make a wall finish that is easy to use, easy to clean, and safer for the environment than paints that contain solvent. It is a responsible alternative to conventional interior paints. Acro Pure is designed for use in homes, commercial and industrial spaces, and healthcare environments. Available in Flat, Eggshell, Satin, and Semigloss, all with built in antimicrobial protection to guard against mold and mildew, there is a finish that is perfect for your project.”

After 120 years in the paint business, Miller Paint knows what works, and what sells.  Consumers are looking for usable, durable low-impact paint.  Now that lead is out of the picture, VOC is today’s concern.  Can you imagine painting and then living in a room the very same day?  That day is now.

The next time we have a paint project at our home, we’re going to paint our way green.  With Acro Pure, we now have that option.
