World’s Greenest Parking Lot
Renewable energy, Solar power — By Stephanie on October 21, 2010 at 6:16 amThe world’s greenest parking lot will welcome its first vehicles next month, at the Denver International Airport. Owned and operated by Greenscape Capital Group, Inc., the Canopy Airport Parking lot (drawing shown above) will be powered by a variety of renewable energy technologies.
Solar panels on the covered roof will generate clean electricity to recharge electric vehicles, as well as power for the 4,200 stall parking garage. Additional renewable energy will come from a 9.6 kilowatt (kW) wind farm on site. Solar and wind is just the start, too. A geothermal heat pump and reflective roofing will also cut down on HVAC demands.
Getting to and from the Canopy Airport Parking is also greener than ever. Shuttles and buses used at the facility will run on biodiesel, natural gas or hybrid electric batteries.
The Denver International Airport parking lot has received a LEED Gold Standard certification from the Green Parking Council.
