Just in time for the holidays!  A new eco-friendly television that uses LED technology (light emitting diodes) and comes with a solar powered remote control.  Philips Econova T.V. (pictured above) is a 42-inch green electronics marvel.  The LED television operates impressively on just 46 watts of power per hour, the equivalent of that used by an ordinary incandescent light bulb.  Perhaps even more astounding is that the Philips television literally sips half the energy required by the smaller, 32-inch Panasonic TC-32LX85.

In fact, a similarly sized plasma television can easily consume more than 300 watts an hour, and a standard LCD television of the same size gobbles up about 100 watts per hour.

The Philips 42PFL6805 Econova Green LED TV has several features that maximize energy savings.  Philips engineers have included a light sensor in the television that directs it to vary light output depending on the level of ambient light in the room.  In other words, the picture will not be any brighter than necessary.   In addition to this cool energy saving feature, the Philips television has an “0 Watt” switch.  With this innovation, you can completely turn off your T.V., as if you had unplugged it from the wall.   Using the 0 watt button, the device does not continue to draw power when you’re not watching it.  This makes it an especially green television, different than other electronics that suck power even when turned off.

Wondering if the Philips Econova could be any greener?  Yep.  The eco-friendly television is made with, and packaged in recyclable materials.  It doesn’t have a printed manual either – you can view instructions online without wasting paper.

The Philips LED television will be available next month in the U.K. for the price of £1,200 (about $1,880 dollars).
