What a Wonderful World!
Its graduation season! For me, that means pull out the hankies! Now, I still have years to go before my children hit college, but yesterday, we celebrated my oldest son’s graduation from elementary school – he’s heading to middle school in the fall – and my twins’ graduation from kindergarten. That’s right… next year, they’ll all be in full-day school!
But back to the crying. You see, I tend to weep at happy, proud events, as opposed to when I’m actually sad or upset (think weddings instead of funerals). I was a bit caught off-guard when nostalgia and grief overwhelmed me all at once yesterday. My daughter’s group of little 5 and 6 year-olds put on a singing performance that ended with my late grandfather’s favorite song, Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World.”
I think the lyrics are perfect for this Peachy Green site.
Hats off to Lauren, Sam and Matt! With love from Mom, Dad and of course, Great-Grandpa!
What a Wonderful World
I see trees of green…….. red roses too
I see ‘em bloom….. for me and for you
And I think to myself…. what a wonderful world.
I see skies of blue….. clouds of white
Bright blessed days….dark sacred nights
And I think to myself …..what a wonderful world.
The colors of a rainbow…..so pretty ..in the sky
Are also on the faces…..of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands…..sayin’.. how do you do
They’re really sayin’……I love you.
I hear babies cry…… I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more…..than I’ll never know
And I think to myself …..what a wonderful world
The colors of a rainbow…..so pretty ..in the sky
Are there on the faces…..of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands…..sayin’.. how do you do
They’re really sayin’… I ….love….you.
I hear babies cry…… I watch them grow
you know their gonna learn
A whole lot more than I’ll never know
And I think to myself …..what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself …….what a wonderful world.

Just reading the lyrics, picturing the little ones singing… without a doubt even choked me up a little bit.
Nice writing… thanks for sharing Stephanie.
