Green Fundraising - set a good example!

OK parents, raise your hands… how many of you have been asked to sell products in the past year to raise money for your children’s school, sports or scouts?  Now, how many of you would engage in green fundraising if you could?

I thought so.  Add me in on the list!

The problem with most programs is that they are antithesis to our values and goals.  Cookie dough sales lead to obesity.  Wrapping paper sales are just plain wasteful.  What messages are we sending to our kids when we ask them to sell products like these?

Want to learn what you can do to engage in green fundraising?  Its not as hard as you might think.

I recently read an article about a mom who started a “greenraising” website, at www.greenraising.com.  When schools sign up, they get 40% of the proceeds from the sales.  It is super easy… as long as you have non-profit status, you can register and earn money for your organization.

In the meantime, why not help recycle used cell phones and ink cartridges?  It is so easy…

Be green: recycle

By engaging in green fundraising, students get more excited about supporting their schools.  Its one thing to raise $1000.  Its quite another to raise $1000 and help the environment!  Its a great learning experience for kids and teachers alike.

Next time you need to raise money for schools, think about green ways to go about getting green.  Whether you sell eco-friendly products, or help collect aluminum cans or phones for recycling, there are plenty of ways to get cash without being wasteful.

We’d love to hear about your green fundraising efforts.  Please share in the comments below.
