Sustainable Spa and Resort in Baja: Prana del Mar
Going green, Green Travel — By Stephanie on October 8, 2010 at 6:18 amLooking for a sustainable spa and resort for your next vacation? It may be closer than you think! Prana del Mar is a new luxury yoga retreat, spa and resort at the southern end of the Baja peninsula, outside of Cabo San Lucas.
You cannot help but relax when you are enjoying the amazing natural beauty right at the doorstep of Prana del Mar. To the east, the Sierra de la Laguna mountains stand sentry; to the west, the Pacific Ocean greets the sandy beaches. Start your day with a stroll, a swim, a massage or a yoga class. The facility is a luxurious, beachfront retreat and wellness center with an emphasis on yoga retreats, Pilates holidays, and yoga teacher trainings.
You can travel greener without sacrificing luxury!
Yoga is just the beginning at the sustainable resort in Baja. You can go horseback riding, hiking in the mountains, snorkling, whale watching, fishing and much more. A tranquil labyrinth is located on the property, and organic produce is literally picked straight from the garden and incorporated into meals. Reclaimed water from the resort is used to grow fruits and vegetables, and compost from the resort’s kitchen is used to enrich the soil.
At the end of your day, relax in one of the 15 guest rooms and suites. The entire property is intimate and private. All rooms feature travertine tile floors, custom-made teak furniture, pillow-top mattresses, organic sheets and bath towels, spacious terraces and balconies with ocean views, and organic personal care products, and more. Two-room suites include complete stainless steel/granite kitchens and large living room areas.
The Prana del Mar resort is 100% solar powered. From photovoltaic (PV) solar panels on the roof to generate clean, renewable electricity, to a solar hot water-heated swimming pool, the green resort minimizes its carbon footprint. Rooms are cleaned with natural, chemical-free products, and guests are offered reusable stainless steel water bottles instead of single-use plastic bottles. Paper products have been replaced with cloth, napkins and hand towels are reused rather than trashed.
The sustainable spa and resort includes a full restaurant, massage rooms, hot tub, swimming pool and a meditation room. The 1850 square foot yoga studio is finished with a palapa-roof and strand-woven bamboo floor.
Now, its been years since we’ve been to Cabo San Lucas, but we love the Baja Peninsula! Next time we plan a trip to Mexico, Prana del Mar will be at the top of our list! It offers relaxing, beautiful and green resort accommodations at their finest. Week-long retreats range from $1500-1900, and include a guest room/suite, 3 healthy organic meals daily, yoga classes, full use of the facilities, and transfers to and from the airport to Prana del Mar.
