When Should You Play with Your Food?

26 When Should You Play with Your Food?

Wonder what gene pool they're from?

Does your food make you smile?  Sure, it might sound like a funny question, but many people these days are actually becoming fearful of the nourishment they put into their bodies.  With good reason.

Genetically modified food is leading to growing concerns world-wide.  Altering the make-up of fruits and vegetables in order to yield higher crops, side-step diseases and pests raises a number of issues.  Expensive seeds push farmers into debt.  Pollination from transgenic food crops dilutes the supply of unmodified produce.  And don’t even get me started on the legal issues involved!

Notwithstanding the serious questions about the scientific experimentation on our food supply, some artists have taken playing with food lightly.

We’ve collected some humorous photographs depicting when it is acceptable to play with your food.  Trust me, no fruits or vegetables were harmed in the making of this post — although a few eggs were cracked!

Now that's a mean banana split!

Don’t call him a rotten tomato!  But you may want to find a fresher, friendlier fruit for your salad tonight.

When a good tomato goes bad....

Kids, don’t try this at home!

23 When Should You Play with Your Food?

I never did like the fuzzy stuff on kiwis - especially on the back!

Rock out at Easter this year with Kiss!

25 When Should You Play with Your Food?

Gene Simmons - you're a good egg!

I’ll never look at a banana the same way again….

24 When Should You Play with Your Food?

These bananas are especially a-peeling!

Wait, let me rephrase.  NOW, I will never look at a banana the same way.

42 When Should You Play with Your Food?

Time to make like a banana, and split!

These garlic bulbs appear to be having a really “grate” time!  Now, if they would only find their way into my spaghetti sauce.

40 When Should You Play with Your Food?

Having a really "grate" time!

Into the cocoa cauldron you go, mate!

16 When Should You Play with Your Food?

We put the "aaaarrr" in marshmallow

I thought an apple a day was good for your health!

37 When Should You Play with Your Food?

Forget Jack-o-Lanterns... this is one scary apple!

I don’t think I need an intro here –  fill in your own caption!

61 When Should You Play with Your Food?

Hot dog-gone it!

Remember that commercial in the 1980s that showed you, “this is your brain on drugs?”  For 2010 – perhaps this is a depiction of your skin without sun protection!

41 When Should You Play with Your Food?

This is your skin without sun protection!

And now for a bit of trivia.  Did you know that reproductively-speaking, fruit are the ovaries of the plants on which they grow?  It makes sense when you consider that seeds are found within oranges, apples, pears, etc.

18 When Should You Play with Your Food?

Taking the concept that fruit is the ovary of a tree, quite literally

Talk about a cereal killer!

22 When Should You Play with Your Food?

He was such a nice, crisp fellow before the tragedy!

This apple must have come from a bad seed!

39 When Should You Play with Your Food?

What is it about these violent apples?

Funny pictures of food go beyond still photographs.  Can you believe that this video is part of a popular series, the Annoying Orange, which now has its own YouTube channel?

Whew!  I’d much rather look at funny images of food, than listen to them talk!

Especially with sweet images like this one.

38 When Should You Play with Your Food?

I think you are so sweet!

Who knew we’d be using the words “eggplant” and “cute” in the same sentence?

(honestly, I wonder if I could create some of my own cute eggplant penguins with some creative paring)?

31 When Should You Play with Your Food?

But can the eggplant penguins sing and dance?

It was the wooden spoon, in the pantry, with a toy gun….

83 When Should You Play with Your Food?

Someone must have stirred the pot!

These eggs had better scramble!  (or perhaps not)

27 When Should You Play with Your Food?

Too late to "egg-sit"

Who cares if its Photoshopped?  This daisy is sunny-side up!

28 When Should You Play with Your Food?

Have a Nice Day!

If we’re going to play with our food, let’s keep it on a light, entertaining level.  Food as art — even the Annoying Orange — can bring a smile to your face without causing you to wonder if your meal is part of a giant science experiment.

And that’s some food for thought!

Love the creative pics! This is one of the best ways I’ve ever seen about raising awareness about this concern.

  3. Stephanie says:

Thanks Sandy and Bonnie – had to have some fun with it. I hope it also helps raise awareness about genetic modifications….

  4. Tabi says:

really awesome pictures!!! thanks for the post :)

  5. Not sure says:

The definition of agriculture is choosing seeds with the best traits, resulting in a physical change to the fruit. The first farmers in the neolithic age, 10s of thousands of years ago, did this. Genetic engineering only speeds the process up. Some people will do anything to put down science, even if the science has existed since the dawn of modern society.

cool pictures but lay off the puns. they weren’t funny.

  7. Yolanda Arellano says:

These images are very funny. We need this to balance out the “attack” on the consumer by “greedy corporate companies” which put profit before safety of the people. Thanks for a great job.

  8. Pieter says:

I eat my food and play with myself….
