Pink is Green!

Pink is Green!

A recent survey by Owens Corning shows that only 27% of Americans can properly identify the largest energy consumer. The Pink Panther (Chief Energy Officer at Owens Corning) is breaking his life long silence and speaking up about it!

What’s your guess? Industry? Transportation?

Nope.

A report by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), shows that 40% of energy in the US is consumed by buildings.

This also means that buildings in the U.S. are leading the way with their contribution to greenhouse gas emissions.

What do American’s think they can do to reduce greenhouse gas emissions? Generally, they aren’t aware of the major contributor of emissions and because of this misunderstanding, most Americans think that the most cost effective way to decrease emissions is through energy efficient appliances and hybrid vehicles. While those are both great options, home insulation is more cost effective, according to the McKinsey Global Institute.

“That startling lack of awareness compelled The Pink Panther to cease his lifelong silence,” said Frank O’Brien-Bernini, Chief Sustainability Officer at Owens Corning. “The Pink Panther has agreed to be part of a nationwide campaign to draw attention to the facts.”

The Pink Pather is out spreading the word.

The Pink Panther is out spreading the word.

So how is the Pink Panther addressing his fans and the world at large? Through the coolest medium ever, of course! Check out what he has to say at his Save Energy Blog! Oh yeah, and TV commercials too.

Here is a snippet from a recent post:

People keep searching for answers to our energy problems while the answer is all around us. By focusing on the role our buildings play in energy consumption and making simple, easy changes such as adding insulation, we will use a lot less energy.

He’s urging homeowners to check out their attics, measure insulation and add more if necessary, to meet current DOE recommendations. By meeting the recommendations, we should see an increase in our energy efficiency and save money this winter.

Well, it’s not a surprise that the Pink Panther is the CEO of a company that sells very pink building insulation. The information in the video is great, but before you run out and buy the pink stuff, have a look at the truly green insulation option! The following video will also explain why the pink stuff is not the ideal choice.

You won’t need all that safety gear to handle blue-jean insulation, and you won’t have all those carcinogens polluting your home and threatening the health of your family.

I have to admit that I am not one of the 27% of Americans who knew that buildings are the number 1 energy hog. Shame on me! What was your answer? Please, don’t let me be the only one in Peachy Green Land that’s a little clueless!
