This has been an amazing week. Yesterday, I found out that I won a sweepstakes prize consisting of a trip to Washington, D.C. for Earth Day celebrations the weekend of April 24-26!
I could not be more excited to travel from the West Coast to the Nation’s capitol for the 40th anniversary of Earth Day! Among other things, we’ll be attending the Earth Day Event on the National Mall, and we’ll get VIP Passes to the Climate Rally.
The contest was sponsored by the AARP through one of its Twitter profiles, @createthegood. I must also give kudos to Expedia and Starwood Hotels for providing airfare and lodging, and to Earth Day Network for the Climate Rally passes and Earth Day t-shirts. We’ll be getting around the City using a metro card too!
This year, Earth Day celebrates its 40th anniversary. One of the largest Earth Day gatherings in the U.S. will take place on April 25 at the National Mall, including a rally for national action on global warming, environmental activities, speakers, entertainment and music.
Even if you can’t make it to Washington, D.C. for Earth Day, you can still make your voice heard. Follow @createthegood on Twitter, and tweet about going green. Visit the 2010 Earth Day Action Center to sign petitions, donate and otherwise mobilize to protect our precious planet. A number of actions are including in Earth Day Network’s Earth Day Campaign. Certainly, you can find one to fit your schedule and lifestyle!
Stay tuned over the next few weeks here at PeachyGreen. I’ll blog about the Earth Day itinerary and share my photographs and experiences in D.C. for Earth Day!
The AARP Create the Good Go Green Twitter Sweepstakes ran from March 23-April 6, 2010. Entries were accepted on Twitter; entrants tweeted about going green, using the hashtag “#gogreen,” and referencing @createthegood.
