Green Blue Jeans (attitude not included)

You know, just about anything you use on a daily basis could be eco-friendly, if you make the right choices.  Even your favorite denim!  I’m a fan of “green” blue jeans.  You buy organic produce… why not wear organic jeans?

“Oh sure,” you are probably thinking, “how far does this ‘green’ craze have to go?”  Does it really make a difference if I wear green blue jeans?

In a word: Yes.

Just to grow enough cotton for one pair of jeans, conventional farming methods use about 2/3 pound of pesticides.  How many pairs do you have in your closet?  What about your family as a whole?  Start doing the math.  In fact, the world-wide denim craze creates enough demand that non-organic cotton farming is responsible for 12% of the total pesticides used, and 25% of insecticides around the globe.

Why not green your bottom line by purchasing denim made from organic cotton, or even hemp?  (lest you think that hemp is a little “too green,” note that the first Levi’s jeans were made with hemp fiber in the 1800s).  Its easy and comfortable… just like your favorite weekend jeans.

They really shouldn´t put those mini power polls so close to a swing set. When people like my girlfriend swing barefoot splinter danger is at an all-time high. She finally learned her lesson though.=)

Play around in organic jeans

Organic jeans are flying off the shelves these days, with many options for buyers.  Choose your style, your price, your design from among top clothing labels.  7 for All Mankind, Gap, Joe’s Jeans, and more, all carry green blue jeans.

Even famous jeans maker, Levi’s, sells “Levi’s Eco,” which are marked with a lowercase “e” inside the front pocket, or at the bottom of the right leg of each jean. Made from organic, pesticide-free cotton, even the rivets on the jeans are recycled.  And, you can be as frugal as you like with respect to green blue jeans.  Wal-Mart and K-Mart both carry organic jeans, too.

Not sure whether your dungarees are eco-friendly?  Check the label, or look up information online through the manufacturer.

Its just one more way you can take a small step to make a big difference for the planet.  Green blue jeans.  It even sounds nice, doesn’t it?
