Congratulations to our New 44th President

Obama in Charge

At noon, Eastern Standard Time, Barack Obama will become the 44th President of the United States.  You can officially program your clocks and watches for that moment because, even if the Inauguration Ceremony is continuing, the Constitution decrees that Bush is done and Obama is in charge when the clock strikes twelve.

So much hope rests on the shoulders of this relatively slim man.  He talks powerfully and inspires so many dreams.  I sincerely hope that he can deliver some results quickly enough to quell the fears of many of us suffering from the depths of the recession.

This post will be published first thing in the morning, Eastern Standard Time.  By the time you read this, the transition may be complete.

Tickets to the Inaugural Parade

I’ll start:  I think that the Obama Administration will indeed enact and enforce critically needed environmental protections, from wildlife to air quality.  I also believe that we will see significant steps taken towards real energy independence in the next four years.  But the job will not be finished.  No – quite the opposite.  By 2012, we’ll probably be realizing how much bigger the task at hand truly is.

If we don’t start now, we’ll be that much further behind.  Simply by working for 4 years on renewable energy will not turn this planet around.  It will take a long term commitment.  It will take leadership.  It will take an army of people that have a stake in a brigher future not for themselves, but for the future generations that are just being born today.

Congratulations to our new 44th President.  May God bless you and the world in the enormous tasks ahead.
