Popular social networking site, Mixx moved to the top 600 websites yesterday, per the Alexa.com ratings. Over the past 8 months, we’ve been tracking the meteoric success of Mixx.com here at Peachy Green. Together, we’ve celebrated the 1-year anniversary and 1000 Alexa ranking, and then the continued move from 900 to 800 to 700…. now to under 600 Alexa, with a score of 589!
What can we say, but: CONGRATULATIONS!
Every milestone along the way is very significant. If you are familiar with Alexa, you’ll see that there is a graph that shows traffic trends for websites. Being in the top 100,000 is a huge achievement. Drop that to the top 50,000 and your influence is even greater.
Mixx has shattered expectations by its moves to the top 600 websites in the world just a little over one year. Could it be that they have the special ingredient that social networking sites seek?
I wonder if there is a secret to Mixx’s Alexa ranking?
Mixx is a unique site, similar to Digg, but I would say – much more interactive. Mixx has a blog, and also offers its readers the opportunity to participate in polls, including commenting. Check out the Mixx Picks, and Mixx’s Engine Room, too. There are a number of specialized communities and groups. You can even find a niche at Mixx, if you’re not sure where to go. Plus, exchange emails with other Mixxers, right on the site.
Perhaps one of my favorite aspects of Mixx is its “awards” that it gives to active members of the community, from “top commenter” to “Curmudeon” (and many more in between), I have a much better idea about who I am dealing with on Mixx! In addition to voting submissions up or down, you can make them a favorite and even give “kudos” to people leaving comments.
For more information about Alexa, consider this quote from Wikipedia.com:
In 1999, Alexa was acquired by Amazon.com for about $250 million in Amazon stock as the company transitioned away from its original vision of providing an intelligent search solution. Alexa began a partnership with Google in spring 2002, and with the Open Directory Project in January 2003. Live Search replaced Google as a provider of search results in May 2006.
