Dreaming of a green home giveaway?

Its a green home giveaway!  Do you want to win your own eco-friendly residence?  What would you do to make your dream come true?  And, I have to ask… does this sound too good to be true?

Perhaps you have not seen the popular HGTV show.  On Green Home 2009, the producers are literally promising a green home giveaway. You can win a house that is built with eco-friendly materials, natural textiles and energy-saving appliances, among other green features.

Last year’s winner of HGTV’s first annual “Green Home” Giveaway (a spin-off of its Dream Home series) took ownership of a mint colored house on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.  The house is green, inside and out, with solar panels on its roof, a rainwater collecting cistern, and permeable concrete patio and driveway surfaces.  The interior includes recycled and organic materials, as well as energy efficient lighting and appliances.

Here’s a quick tour of last year’s green house that was given away!

Don´t You Wish You Were Here?

This year's green home giveaway is minutes from the beach

This year, the featured green home is said to be a Spanish contemporary-styled, coastal Florida cottage.  You mean I could win a house on Florida?   Where do I sign up?

As with the green home constructed last year, the HGTV Green Home 2009 will include construction and design elements from recycled and organic materials.  Renewable energy will help power the residence, and energy efficient appliances will be incorporated.  The goal is to receive a significant LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.

Hold on!  You can’t enter yet.  Just mark your calendars for April 17 through June 5, 2009 and be prepared for the race for the green home giveaway.  You can enter each day, if you like, to increase your chances of winning.  Wait a minute….. strike that.  Just enter once (I need all the help I can get).

Stay tuned - both on the tube and right here - for more information on the 2009 Green Home Giveaway.  If I win, I may just invite you over for a nice, green, refreshing mint julep.

Bring extra sunscreen.
