Glacial fracture - caused by??

In light of the Copenhagen Climate Summit and the nasty effects of the CRU “Climategate,” I think its time we all took a giant step back from the fray and consider what is truly at risk here.  Some reputations, perhaps.  Some egos, for sure.

But ultimately, when it comes to the global warming debate, do we want to win the battle, but lose the war?  In other words, who cares who is “right” about the cause behind the climbing average temperatures?  Do the polar bears care if we find consensus for who’s to blame for melting glaciers and shrinking snow packs?

Two years ago, an Oregon teacher created a viral video last year on the global warming debate.  No matter which “side” you are on, you cannot afford to miss this film:

Climate change is more than just shrinking glaciers

Greg Craven, is a high school teacher in the relatively small town of Independence, Oregon.  His video, entitled, “The Most Terrifying Video You’ll Ever See,” has won over his students, as well as skeptics!

Its hard to argue with his logic about the fact that that we don’t have to settle on whether humans are causing global warming because:

“the risk of not acting far outweighs the risk of acting.”

A mere two hours after posting it on his video on You Tube, Craven had drawn 10,000 viewers.  A Seattle Times article had this to say:

“Now, six months later, Craven’s earnest and quirky appeal to act on climate change has collected more than 4 million views worldwide — roughly 500 times the population of [his hometown] Independence. That puts it near the top of YouTube’s all-time list for views in the news and politics category.”

How will it all end?  Well, Craven has anticipated that question, and since produced a 44-part, six hour video series entitled… wait for it…. ”How it All Ends.”  You can view the series in its entirety on his YouTube page, wonderingmind42.

Let’s put the egos aside and truly consider what we can do as part of humanity to take a little less than we give.  Its called sustainability, and its the right thing to do.
