SFGFF383x95 First Annual San Francisco Green Film Festival

The San Francisco Green Film Festival takes place in March 2011

Its awards season in Hollywood, which means that everyone is talking about the Golden Globes and Oscars.  But one category that has not yet emerged in mainstream film-making is “green films.”

Green films are definitely being made, however.  In fact, on March 3, 2011, the first annual San Francisco Green Film Festival will take place, including a Film Premiere and Green Carpet Gala on March 3, 2011 at 7:00 p.m at the Landmark Theatres Embarcadero Center Cinema; the Green Carpet Gala follows afterward at the Bently Reserve, an LEED-certified building.  In fact, the entire event is “green” serving sustainable foods and beverages.  At the Film Premiere, you’ll be able to mingle with festival filmmakers and special guests while you enjoy live music and dancing.

Tickets are on sale now for both the opening night Gala and all-access festival passes.  They are expected to sell out fast!  You must be 21 to attend the Premiere on March 3.

The Green Film Festival continues for three days through March 6.  Among the 60 green film premiers that will take place at the event is “Bag It“  – which asks “Is your life too plastic?” and explores how plastics have invaded our lives.  In addition to over 60 film premiers, there will be panels, workshops and educational programs.  Details will be posted on the official website on February 1, but here is a hint at what’s to come:

Highlights include a live satellite feed Q&A with iconic writer and environmentalist Margaret Atwood; the West Coast premiere of Werner Herzog’s new feature documentary; visiting filmmakers from China, Brazil, Denmark, UK, Canada, Germany, and across the USA; a spectacular Opening Night Green Carpet Gala, and more.

The event is presented in partnership with the Plastic Pollution Coalition, an organization working to stop plastic pollution and its toxic impacts.
