Fireworks make impressive displays

Happy Independence Day, USA!  This July 4th, you may be headed to picnics, going swimming, headed to a family reunion, and perhaps most importantly, planning to watch fireworks.  As much fun as it looks to set off your own display, its much safer and greener to leave fireworks to the experts.  In fact, many municipalities and neighborhood associations ban the use of personal fireworks displays.

Each year, thousands of children and pets are seriously injured (some even killed) by fireworks set off at home.  Forest or brush fires can be started by a stray spark.  Even without these safety considerations, there are other things to keep in mind, including potential violation of noise ordinances and the dust and debris often left behind after the holiday celebrations are concluded.

When you watch a professional fireworks display, you can be assured of an impressive show and safe holiday enjoyment.  Often, the fireworks are set off from barges or piers, minimizing the danger of fires being started.  The trained professionals know how to handle gunpowder and explosives (chances are you and your kids do not)!

Fireworks shows are usually set to festive music and promise to delight you for at least 20 minutes of flashing lights and colors.   Why not pull up a chair or find a great spot on a grassy hill and lean back and enjoy an expert fireworks show?

Our fireworks night in the UK is on 5th November (Bonfire Night AKA Guy Fawkes’ Night) and back-garden fireworks are part of the fun! Mind you, one advantage of Nov for fireworks is that it’s cold and wet, so less chance of fires starting.

I agree Amanda – we do LOVE fireworks! I’m sure that wet November weather is much safer and greener than our summer celebrations! :)
