Divine Chocolate is a Sustainable Valentine Treat
Going green — By Stephanie on February 13, 2011 at 6:46 amTomorrow is Valentine’s Day. The holiday that typically involves flowers, sentimental greeting cards and candy. If you are looking for a “green” gift to give your sweetie (or yourself), consider Divine Chocolate – a sustainable Valentine treat.
Divine Chocolate produces, markets and distributes the Fair Trade chocolate bars. It claims to be the first farmer-owned brand of chocolate, with 35% of the company’s shares in the U.S. owned by the Kuapa Kokoo farmers’ cooperative in Ghana, an association of 45,000 cocoa farmers. Divine Chocolate U.K. is 45% owned by the cooperative.

Divine Chocolate for sustainable chocolate goodness
If you are looking for Divine Chocolate, the sustainable candy bars and and other products sold by Divine are made in Germany. Here in the U.S., you can find them at Whole Foods Market, Cost Plus, World Market, Wegman’s, Fred Meyer, and online at BuyDivine.com.
No, they don’t come in a red, heart-shaped box. But it will do your heart good to know that your chocolate purchase is going to help Kuapa Kokoo, the farmer’s cooperative, as well as Lutheran World Relief. Plus, just think of the heart-healthy benefits chocolate is said to possess!

Many delicious flavors of the Fair Trade Divine Chocolate
It is rare for a group of small scale farmers to own such a large stake in a Fair Trade chocolate company. You can help contribute to its continued success by enjoying Divine Chocolate, and gifting it to the special people in your life!

There are health benefits to dark chocolate. The darker the better. I like mine at least 70% cocoa, but sometimes I will go as high as 85%.
