Beauty and Sustainability with Glass Water Bottles from BottlesUp
Going green — By Stephanie on March 9, 2011 at 6:34 amIf you’re like me, you might get a bit nostalgic for those old-fashioned glass soda bottles. Glass is recyclable like aluminum and plastic, but single-use containers are still not very eco-friendly. That’s why we love these cool, reusable glass water bottles that combine beauty and sustainability.
The new, innovative company, BottlesUp
introduced its artistic water bottle at the 2011 International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago last week, with high marks for form as well as function. In fact, BottlesUp was named one of 6 finalists for the show’s GIA awards (Global Innovator Awards).
The BottlesUp glass water bottle is made with natural, recycled materials and designed by the nationally-acclaimed glass artist, Laurel Herter.
Ms. Herter explained her sustainable innovation:
“We’ve been able to capture the beauty of glass and highlight its spectacular qualities in a reusable bottle. The distinctive qualities of the glass go beyond the bottle – it’s better for the environment and for our own health. Our launch at the Show allows us to share a unique glass bottle with retailers seeking to sell an everyday item that blends art, functionality and environmental responsibility.”
Each BottlesUp bottle is fashioned from recycled glass and is sourced 100% here in North America. The bottles are created using traditional techniques in a glass-making facility located in Mexico. The 22-once water bottles include food-grade silicone caps and grippers. BottlesUp water bottles are heavy and sturdy to withstand rough handling. The bottles fit nicely in standard-size cup holders.
Why go with a glass water bottle instead of plastic? Glass is cleaner, more pure and healthier than most plastic-based reusable bottles. BottlesUp containers are free of Bisphenol-A (BPA), phthalates, Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), and polycarbonates. The bottles themselves are sold in eco-friendly, minimal recyclable packaging, without any use of plastic.
BottlesUp glass water bottles cost about $33.95 and are available online at www.bottlesupglass.com, or at some specialty stores.
