Rainwater Harvesting Bus ShelterAfter living most of my life in rainy Seattle, Washington, I have to admit that I usually curse inclement weather – rather than praise it.  But what if there was an umbrella policy for potable water?

In other words, can you imagine rain water harvesting that could address water shortage issues in your region?

Recently, I heard about a unique Eco Bus Shelter design.  When you think about streets, sidewalks, parking lots and curbs, impervious surfaces are one of the first things that come to mind.  Paving over earth creates runoff, and often drainage issues.

But let’s find that silver lining in the gray rain clouds!  Designer Ramesh Kanth’s concept uses a bus shelter structure to gather rainwater, which can then be purified for fresh water.

Every day, rain falls all over the earth, literally wasted as it drains into gutters.  However, Mr. Kanth’s eco-friendly bus shelter recycles rainwater and preserves it for dry spells in the community.

Could your municipality install bus shelters like this Eco Bus Shelter?  What would it be like not to run out of water during the summer months?  Since the structures are part of mass transit infrastructure, it makes sense to install duel-function shelters that can both protect you from the rain, while collecting it for future use.

Gene Kelly would definitely dance with excitement!
